Is anyone here at all “hands on” familiar with these. Looking at a short term Hilux replacement. Just wanted to see if these have major issues. I would probably buy a 1500 as I’m more familiar with the SBC style engine and 4L65E if it needs fixing, rather than the 6.5L diesel version with 4L80E. Small parts from the USA shouldn’t be a drama, but I know Holden dumped all their spares to Eagle or someone like that. I was mainly worried about specific RHD stuff like steering box, linkages etc. I think Jaycab in Tamworth did the GMC Ambulance RHD conversions, not sure who did these. |

All Holden Suburbans were built factory RHD at the GM factory in Silao Mexico.

Thanks Terry, I just saw that on a website. Any ideas where the steering was sourced from? There must have been another market other than the handful sold here? I think the numbers were way less than 1000 sold here. |

I just read elsewhere that they were produced LHD and converted in Mexico using a Blazer dashboard that had to be stretched to fit. |

The reason I asked is I'm ordering a new Ram 1500, but it'll be 6 months or more. Advertising the Hilux and if it sells a long time prior to the Ram turning up I need an interim car. In the past the answer would be just to buy a V8 Commodore or Holden ute, however those are not cheap nor disposable anymore! |

The RHD steering boxes are just the regular Saginaw style they've been using for years, but in RHD orientation. I've seen these in many Chevs & GMCs over the years.
The case & the worm are different but everything else inside the box is the same for both LHD & RHD.
