Not a Holden by any means, but a badge on a race car. That is the last time we'll see a GMH or Holden vehicle on the track in the main 500mile/1000kM endurance race in Australia. What started with a win at Phillip Island in 1960 in a GMH built Vauxhall Cresta with a class D win but essentially an outright winner anyway to today with a win at Bathurst in the 2021 1000kM race by a "Holden" vehicle in what is the last of this race to feature a locally badged vehicle. GMH also won the last series production race, the last GroupC race and now the last V8 Supercar race with a local "car". They only missed out on GroupA. GMH came really close to winning the 1963 race too, the first Bathurst endurance race and the first Ford vs Holden battle, with the S4/S5 EH coming what was basically second outright after leading for a period - ironically with the car in front of it driven by two names big in the GMH world - Harry Firth and Bob Jane. And the car behind it driven by Bruce McPhee! |

I think the ZB Commodore will race next year still
Gen 3 Camaro and Mustang in 2023 |

Really? Wow. I was sure they’d start afresh next year. You learn something new everyday. One more year of Holden vs nobody! Then afterwards nobody vs nobody. Might as well change it to EV’s and open it to all! |

It is a bit of a mongrel hybrid to fit the 4-door chassis, but you can at least buy a Mustang, if you're that way inclined. They were originally going to start with the new cars earlier, but covid & other delays pushed back their intro until 2023. Dr Terry |

I meant Bathurst was traditionally Ford versus Holden in local product, although starting that way in 1963 that went away after 1963 for a few years where GMH didn’t really participate until 1968 due to the GM Corporate ban. Although they starting working on the GTS Special soon after that. I guess Ford fans are used to big gaps in local representation, like they didn’t have a Falcon in the big game between 1985 and 1991 and again in recent times with the Mustang being used. So they are used to cheering in imported stuff that more often than not you couldn’t even really buy here like Sierras and the 80’s Mustangs. For us GMH/Holden fans it has pretty much been continuous since 1968 with a local product (or facsimile) racing. Which is what I meant by a nobody once the Holden branded car is done.
I must have not got the memo about Covid delaying the end of Holden/Commodore and start of GM/Camaro. I don’t watch the normal racing much as it is normally won in the pits and not on the track, but Bathurst is longer and more goes wrong to stop stupid strategy plays. Like the dark side tried yesterday, banking on a Safety car with #11 however it broke down (I suppose if it can’t look like a Ford at least it behaved like one!) and created a Safety car. |
