HZ Kingswood had the same hubcaps, big stainless ones with Lion sticker stuck on the middle.

SL/E Statesman only came out late in the HZ run Sep 1979 ? I do not remember ever seeing a HZ Kingswood hubcap on a WB Kingswood ute. a builder I went to work with had one of the last WB utes and he was pissed off that he could not get a new WB at the time as they had stoped making them and he got a new ute every year, so he had had three 3.3L auto WB Kingswood utes at least. I am sure they were the HJ type of hubcap. My Cousin bought one of the last WB Kingswood on the floor in 1985 it was a 4.2L 4 speed, but I can not remember the hubcaps, I think he had mag wheels on it I am sure. In my 60 Years of Holden book I see a WB Kingswood with HJ hubcaps and one with HZ hubcaps ?

WB Kingswood definitely has same hubcaps as HZ Kingswood. That is the only hubcaps they had as the standard Ute had no hubcaps and similar plastic centres Commodore.

Their are new car Holden WB Kingswood ute brochures with he HJ-X hubcaps tho. Maybe only the QLD made got the Old caps ? I seen a brochure with a HZ 1 tonne with HQ hubcaps ? most I tonne hubcaps are all totally painted, HQ white, HJ-X silver. Yes all Standard Holden WB ute P van and 1 tonne got the base VB Commodore small plastic caps. they look ok. Maybe the HZ 1 Tonne got the HQ caps because they got a chrome grill ? spicing it up over the dreadful looking HQ 1 tonne, trying their best to make it look like a Bedford truck ? maybe Holden was trying to make it look tougher ? I have come across some that believe that because you have what they claim to be a truck ? a ute, it's got to be a shit cart. I have had car dealers with this same opinion ? oh it's only a ute, so it's shit ! they ride like a kangaroo shit handling light in the arse and I say hang on fool they don't have to be like such at all, look at my VY SS ute they handle and ride like a sedan. Holden brought the HQ 1 tonne out only as a 173 that was it ! then some how a huge 202 took place later down the line, then a V8 253 OMG ! but the only truly worthy real 1 tonne is a V8 308 in fact. not to mention the 308 HX-Z was as gutless slug in them Ambulances. a fellow worker had one converted back to a 1 tonne tray back, gutless as HX 308 T400 auto.

In my 60 Years of Holden book I see a WB Kingswood with HJ hubcaps and one with HZ hubcaps ? WB KIngswood Utes have HZ KIngswood SL full wheel covers. However many official GMH press photos show the WB Kingswood Ute with the HJ/HX/HZ base model caps. The pic in my 60 years book came with the WB press release. It must have been a late decision by them to fit the larger caps. This is another good example of not relying 100% on brochure & press release shots to check authenticity. An earlier case was with EH Utes & Vans. In production none had front bumper over-riders, however most press photos & brochure shots show them fitted. It is almost impossible to find a pic of an original EH Ute or Van without the over-riders (as produced). Dr Terry |
