last year i purchased a couple of radiator hoses from another HR enthusiast with details on each hose as follows -

CH688 - HOLDEN HR
Top - with power steering - 1966 - 67
replaces Genuine Part No. 7431525.

The question i have is -
this hose if fitted to my vehicle requires a thermostat housing with a vertical or inclined outlet to connect the hose to
as opposed to the usual horizontal one.

is anybody out there able to advise me if the 186S with power steering had an inclined neck on the thermostat housing as to be honest,
i really have no idea myself. Anybody have any input on this please?

googling shows some early Holdens had a thermostat housing with an inclined neck but no mention of the 186S.

But the hoses i purchased clearly show they will not connect to a normal thermostat housing.
appreciate any thoughts on this.

cheers:-

Same thermostat housing as EH is what I have found.

^^^ Correct, same as EH.

I believe that HK/T/G with both A/Cond & P/St use the same housing also.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Yep, that's totally correct. Here are 3 different HR's (although not X2 or S) with PowerSteer and the EH style top thermostat housing 👍

I'm sure your aware that's a very rare item you have there. I was unable to source that hose, either NOS or New, when fitting Powersteer to my HR X2.

Out of curiosity, does your hose have yellow lines running the length of it, like the hose pictured?

I would be interested to see your Intake manifold water hose setup.

186S w/Power Steer had their own hoses, due to the immediate 90 degree bend out of the lower thermostat housing (to clear the powersteer pump) and for the specific setup of the 186S intake manifold.

I've just remembered we have this original ad/picture which shows a 186s with Powersteer.

Very rare beast 👍
