So I recently purchased a kingswood and am wanting to get it back on the road but it doesn’t have a number plate attached and doesn’t have the original engine. I am wondering if there is any way in finding the original engine number using any of the numbers stamped on the car

You will probably never find what the original engine number is, unless you are able to get info the your state rego authority. The chassis number will be the key with the rego authority as that will have remained the same since new.
Depending on what model you have the info on the tag will give you an idea of enginee type or even capacity. But maybe you already know this?

You won't find the original engine from any numbers stamped on the car, which depending upon the Series will vary. Only the info on the vehicle VIN tag might help you. You might have a chance if its a W Series Kingswood somewhere during HQ-mid HZ. No chance for WB or for HK-HG.

Hi Jimmy. What model kingswood? Tag numbers if you have them? Where did it come from? It may have been owned by someone on this forum at some stage. You never know.
If it came from Victoria you may be able to trace some history through the Association of Motoring Clubs (AOMC). I was able to find the first rego number (KST093) and the date of first registration (23rd September 1970) and the original engine number (161H322145). The build date was 5/70, chassis number HG00013A, body 1A. They looked through more than 6000 cards to find my rego card. Once they had the rego card with the engine number on it, they then found when the engine was replaced (May 1980) and what the engine number of the replacement engine was (possibly a repco or gem exchange engine?). Then they found which car my engine was fitted to (HR panelvan with rego JTR325 in July 1980). I was able to get pics of all the cards they got this info from all for $175 at the time. It is probably more now though. No personal details are available as due to privacy reasons those cards were destroyed. They found all that from the chassis number of my HG Panel Van!
Good luck Jimmy.
Cheers,
Ron
PS: I had a HT Kingswood in the late 90's with NSW rego BGY347. I still have the folder with the owners handbook and some of the receipts for work done on it by the previous owner. It was white with blue interior and factory bucket seats. Matching numbers too. 186 powerglide. It was a very nice car to drive. I sold it twice as the first sale owner flogged it to death so I told him he wasn't worthy of owning it and insisted on buying it back at a very substantially reduced price. It sat for a number of years in a shed until I sold it to mate for $600 when I moved to Qld in 2005.

Is there any way to find the original rego number from the vin or chassis number? I did some research and found the original engine was a 173 high compression. But I still need the rego number to get it back on the road

VicRoads did an FOI search for my HK's 1969 'Application for registration of motor car' document and my engine number, chassis number and rego number are all listed in it
