Hi Fastlaners,

I have a HG Belmont, however I cannot find the colour for the trim code that is on the compliance plate.

The trim code is 1802-13C and the paint code is 568-12207. I know the paint is Marina Blue and wondering if the 13c was a typo in producing the plate and maybe should have been 13X (Turqoise Mist) or possibly even 14X (Twilight Blue)?

I did come across a reference at some point that there were different colours for Belmont Commercial (I think only 5 or 6 basic choices) and one of them being labelled "Blue", although I cannot find that reference in recent searches (can't remember whether it was here or elsewhere). I've also read that the late HGs had HQ colours thrown in as well, however I can't find the 13C code reference for HQ either.

The front door trims are original and seem to be more of a blue (possibly Twilight Blue) than the headlining and front bench seat (that seem to be Turqoise Mist. The headlining is not faded and definitely has the green tinge to it. The front bench is faded, although also has a very slight green tinge to it.

Has anyone come across the 13C trim code before?

Is it possible that there was a mixture of trim colours in the headlining and front bench seat being different to the door trims?

I have some photos, although new to the forum and not sure how to post them...

Appreciate any assistance deciphering this :)

13 is Aqua.

HG standard Belmont trims were Gold (11), Red (12) and Green (16). A is bench, B is buckets. The other names are Kingswood and up

I do remember some wierdo trims used across HT and HG Belmont where unused HK or HT trim material was used up, and these were C and D coded. It was just a way of getting rid of material. GMH never threw anything away if it could be used or sold.

You could get light headlining in HG Belmont, just tick option code XU3. It gave you Sandlewood headlining. I wouldn't be surprised if they did this either, as if they were using up odd seat material they wouldn't have a headlining to match. Plus towards the end of HG passenger (around March 1971) GMH started to add XU3 to a lot of Belmont vehicles in the schedule to use up remaining Sandlewood headlining material.

What you've mentioned re weirdo trims makes sense - only because I've seen a HK with the exact same vinyl pattern and colour on the original seats (vertical embossed stripes). Their HK seats were also faded and looked the same colour, seems light blue although could be aqua as well with the fading.

My headlining, yes, that could definitely be Aqua.

Looking at the dash - yeah, could be Aqua.

Hopefully these help further with the mystery :)

I guess a follow up question is if I wanted to retrim, I'm guessing that Aqua wouldn't be available? Although seems Turquoise Mist is available at places like Winners. I can try and find a similar colour vinyl from the US, although would just be the vinyl and would then need someone to make them (or try my hand on a sewing machine!).

Appreciate any further advice or info.

It is actually turquoise mist as it is HT trim, not HK. So the trim should be obtainable. The door trims are Wyvern insert with vertical pleats, same as HT Monaro.

Aqua is the name for 13 trim in HG, but not in Belmont. They just used the 13 code as it was free to use. The car will most likely be an early 1971 car.

Not sure about the headlining and dash, it might be just HG Kingswood 13 Aqua.

I do know where there is a NOS rear door trim out of one of these cars, however would be of little use as the aftermarket stuff might be slightly different. You'd be best off buying a set. Dave Smith at Bellarine Classic Autos will probably have original trim samples too.

BTW, the seat isn't original, that is an old HK seat. The original seats that went with 13C and those door trims were a mix of Wyvern vinyl with a cloth insert on either side of the centre panel.

Personally I reckon you'd spend way too much time and effort trying to do it as per original, and its just an old HG Belmont. Unless it was to be a nut and bolt concours resto you'd probably be far better served just getting something from someone like Winners that looks close to right for a HG Belmont and keep the original door trims as mementos.

Yes, it is 2/71 build.

No worries, that all makes sense. I checked the pinchweld today and that is also the Aqua colour.

I'll try Bellarine Auto Classics and will go have a look at Winners and see if their Turqoise Mist is similar to the unfaded rooflining (although need to redo it anyway, so probably neither here nor there).

I'm not looking at full nut and bolt resto, just getting up to scratch as a half-decent daily driver, so I guess anything that matches close would be fine.

I need to get some bodywork finished first and was planning to stick with the original Marina Blue when I get to it, although also like the Aegean Aqua (that might go well with the Aqua or Turqoise Mist interior, whatever I end up with).

These were a special package car called a 186L. They came with 186 engine, cloth seats and disc brakes. $2,600 new
