Was trying to find out the correct codes/marking for a 74 HQ Sandman panelvan 308 4 speed, the ones that I can think off
Front of drivers side rocker cover, 308 auto i was told is QF, 253 QA & QD for manual/auto. chasing 308 manual ?
the letters painted on the diff for example EL for 2.78 salisbury chasing diff ration code for 3.08 limited slip was told might be EM ? can anyone confirm
Rear leaf springs on commercial was it RE or BE or something else, also is their a rough list of things that were manually checked and tagged with the stroke of a colour of paint usually white? like the top of the power steer pump , handbrake connection under vehicle, diff near the nut etc, I am sure their were lots of these but has anyone ever recording such markings.

It'd depend upon the body and assembly plant in many instances. For a HQ Sandman Van you have 3 different body plants and 4 different assembly plants. Good luck getting stuff like that right!

Yeah ok one can only ask, makes perfect sense their would be variation in markings if at all I guess from plant to plant

Does the HQ in question still have its original glovebox door with the tyre placard on the back?

The broadcast sheet codes on mechanical items will be consistent as they will all have been made in the same original place regardless of what the final VAP is. But anything else, forget it. Remember the different BAP and VAP weren't anywhere even near consistent with how and when they stamped the 3 x vehicle tags, what info went on them and even what what stamped into the body and when the chassis rails were stamped. They even tracked the bodies through the body and assembly plants differently using very different identifiers. The Broadcast sheets were different in some ways as a result despite them all being produced from the one mainframe.

Even the bodies and sometimes the chassis were welded together differently not only between the BAP locations, but also along the way from the same plant location. What I mean is you put a 1972 Elizabeth van body next to a 1974 one and look closely. Or put a Pagewood HQ van body next to an Acacia Ridge one or an Elizabeth one, makes it pretty easy to spot rebodied vehicles.

When you get down to looking at how they were dipped, where (and when) paint was applied, what was painted in what colour, in what timeframe and when (think firewalls) you start to get a picture of how almost impossible it is to restore a car unless you have the whole thing (albeit tired and in need of a resto) complete and untouched in front of you to document properly before stripping it. You can also then get a picture of how paint marks would not only be different between plants but also across a series.
