Been working on an undercover steel welding bench so I can use it for general fabrication. Will have vices, bench grinder etc. on it.

Picked up a pair of Dawn vices for it today. A beaut metric (1970's) 150mm offset forged steel vice (blue one). Just needs a good clean and grease and I'll give it a coat of Ford engine blue paint plus I ordered a new pair of jaws for it. And a restored 150mm metric Engineers Vice (1970's or early 80's), the standard cast iron type in red. $260 for the pair.

nice one.... ! I have the std 'red' cast iron one I inherited from Dad (when we cleaned out the garage when he died)
he had it since I was a kid, still a great vice!

I also have a 150mm Engineer's vice that I bought new about 18 months ago. It is the light green SG (spheroidal graphite cast iron, also called nodular iron). I think this type replaced the old forged steel type and is supposed to be just as tough. I wanted a new one for precise clamping rather than an older one with wear in it. The pair I got yesterday will be perfect for what I want to do with them though.

Yes, already ordered a pair for the offset vice. It's off to the sand blasters today to give it a quick clean up then I'll give it a coat of the Ford dark blue and back together.
