My son’s VE SV6 Ute has the engine light on. I have replaced timing chain, O2 sensors, purge solenoid valve (it was not working), oil pressure sender.
Nothing has worked so far.
Now the engine light flashes and it starts to run rough.
Can anyone recommend a mechanic in Sydney that will actually diagnose the problem who knows what they are looking at?

Dr Terry will probably be able to point you to one of his customers in the industry.

I'd be looking to spark, so plugs and coils. However it'd be nice if you can find someone that can diagnose it straight away.

What codes is it throwing up?

About 100 codes. I can’t check as I don’t have a scanner but when I took it to a bloke that had one, it was misfiring on one bank among other things.
I replaced the coils and plugs, I forgot that.
It’s a pain in the arse because my son is working in Sydney and I’m in the central west.

Do you know which engine it is ? There are 6 different V6 engines in VE, 7 if you count factory LPG & 4 of these were seen in SV6s.

Next when you get heaps of fault codes (Quote: "About 100 codes") most of these will be irrelevant. Usual practice is to record them (write them down) & then erase them. Take the car for a drive & see what codes return.

Most common causes of misfires are spark plus, ignition coils & injectors (if it's an SIDI engine).

I can’t check the codes as it’s 400km away from me.
Can you recommend anyone in Sydney I can get my son to take it to?
The misfire has gone since I fitted the new plugs and coil packs.
So whatever is causing the engine light can’t have been related to that.
Is it possible for the cats to cause a O2 reading issue?
Can the crank angle sensor cause an engine light?
