Hi, I was playing with the dash today trying to get some dash lights working, and I did something and now the fuel gauge is showing maximum to the point where the needle is over to the right so far that it doesn't show in the gauge. Have I shorted something and stuffed it, is there a way to fix it? Help... Edited by user Saturday, 20 July 2024 1:52:28 PM(UTC)

Some gauges, like temp will go maximum when open circuited between gauge and sender. So you may have just broken the wire that runs to the fuel tank. |

With HZ gauges, they all all thermal, so open circuit they read zero. If you short the sender wire to ground it will go full scale. Also if the ground is missing they will go full scale.
My guess is that the ground wire is not secured. Don't leave the ignition on for too long, the gauge(s) will be destroyed.

 Dr Terry
There were some sparks probably between loom and dash body when I was faffing around with it, and I drove it to town and back and have had it switched off for days and the fuel gauge is still maxed, have I probably fried it? Bugger. On the upside the low beam headlights are no longer connected to the dash light circuit (it was interesting having dimming headlights ) and they're not blowing fuses any more (they're connected to the correct power source that doesn't come from the fuse box). |
