Anybody know if you could order from factory a 350 in a HQ ute and if you could roughly how many there would have been?
I’d guess not many

You could order one if a dealer was prepared to push it through the zone office for you. GMH made two HQ Kingswood V8 utes at Dandenong optioned with L30 and M41. One was the Ewe’t. I think there was a Pagewood one too. Dealers also made some out of driveline swaps using 350 optioned LS, also some vans. GMH also made some 350 wagons, mostly Premiers. It was an easy build, for the utes they just used an L30 Deville tailshaft and a cab-chassis diff yoke. Exhaust would be a single with the same front pipes as a 350 Deville. They already had the gearshift crossover mech for 350 Deville column shift.

No 350 HJ at all. There may have been a mock up with a 400 (would have been a HQ) but the 400 was canned from HJ During HQ. The 2BBL 400 had similar power to the 250hp HJ 5.0L so it didn’t make sense to use it in the Caprice.

Only Ewe’t myself. This guy was trying to sell his 350 powered HQ ute as a “factory 350”. I finally convinced him to send me photos of the tags and they were quick to show that this was not the case. Waiting for a sucker i guess.

You would never pick a HQ 350 ute from tags unless it was a late one. Same with LS and Premier, even Monaro. Same way you couldn't pick a standard V8 one from one optioned with a 308.

I have tag images from the other Dandenong L30 optioned HQ Kingswood V8 ute, it was Chateau Mauve and a bench seat so column shift M41. This is the one that wasn't the Ewe't. I've also seen the tags for Bob Jane's HQ V8 Premier wagon that was optioned with L30, it was Sebring Orange so a CTV car as well. Both of those cars you would not know anything about them mechanically except they were at least a 253, and both autos as they had ADR9 on the compliance plate. The only way I know they were L30 M41 cars was I saw them in the Service/Warranty records.

A Preston motors (Dandenong) car, had power steering as well. Influential Dealer.

Aircon isn’t original by its BETSBAC.
