HT Holdens ? with the 253 and 308 Holden V8's engine numbers start at 253H1001 or maybe it was 308H1001 ? but the 6 cyl engines ? are not in line with the V8's numbers are they, like the HQ on are all in line regardless be it Torana, 6 cyl or 4 cyl or V8's ?

What i have is on my books is a 253H32838 original in a HG.
And i have a 308H134913
And i have a 11QT509682 out of a HQ Statesman. late 1974 i would think.

So i wonder around what month are they around about ? the HG looks like to be to low a numbers for a HG to be ? and 308H134913 to high ?

HQ Start a new system, but HT and HG V8's must serve the same numbers system ? or not.

I have HX 308 original QT812444 and car built 11/1976. So when do HX numbers start of from 750,000 ?

So when do HZ QT etc numbers start off from and then 9/1978 they all become ZT etc with new numbers starting off at 1001 againe ? So when the Starfire 4 came out 9/1978 all of the 4's and 6's and V8's start numbers 1001 all over.

I seen a blue 6 cyl with no 3.3L casting on the block once in a VC Commodore smashed up burnt out in the bush here and i thought, hey ! the first 149's in the EH had no 149 cast on the block and nor did the first HR 161's and the first V8 253 had no 253 casting on the block. but i have seen 3.3L cast on a very late HZ red motor and the top intake side of the head was cast like a Blue sort of, not rounded like every other red head is, i have seen 2 heads cast like that.

541000 Holden V8's built 253 and 308's and some 5.7L ? but how many 253 and how many 308's were made.

I have from Wheels book that VB sold 25% V8's of that 85% were 253's and 15% are 308's.=23,000 in all.
VC sold 8% V8's and 88% were 253's and 12% 308's = 8,000 in all.
VH sold 16% V8's 82% were 253 and 18% 308's = 20,000 in all.
VK sold 11% 308's = around 6000 est

So it would be fair to say that 85% of carby V8's were 253's

I can't recall if the first stamped Holden V8 was 253H or 308H but yet it was sequence number 1001. It is a different sequence to the 6cyl engines.

HQ started at QD1001 and this sequence included 6cyl and GMH V8 LC and LJ Torana and Bedford, but not SBC design engines or imported 4cyl engines. LH Torana started with their own sequence at 1001 for 6cyl and V8 but by about 8/75 the 6cyl auto engines were QL/QD in the HQ sequence and when ADR27A started mid LX they added an X in front of the QL, QD so XQL - added at the VAP like Statesman 11 prefix was added at the VAP.

253H32838 must be later in HG. The sequence was only just hitting 20000 by August 1970.
No such number as 308H13913.
11QT509682 around May 1974.

They vary across VAP's and what the engine, get used at different rates and get mixed up. High volume engines count up quicker.

HX started around 725000 in the March and April 1976 pilots.

HZ reset at Zx1001 around November 1978 and UC auto 6cyl used the same sequence, manual UC and Starfire stayed in the LH sequence, but VB Commodore started its own sequence at Vx1001 when VB Pilots started. WB and subsequent Commodore used the VB sequence until the end. VSIII and VT engines were still in the same sequence.

I have photos of the first blue 3.3, its in a WB with chassis number AWB00001A. It has 3.3 on the side. XT5 engine blocks (not always blue) were first introduced basically at the start of VB Commodore, and used in HZ and Bedford.

were introduced LATE in VB car production (not at the start) .... that was to run out HZ/VB red XT4 blocks and ensure 100% availabilty for VC vehicle production and WB production
And also in Bedford (painted silver ). My memory correct?

I'll have to find the date of the bulletin, but the breakpoint for the V8 XT5 blocks is:

QT985300
VR1047
NT11795

You can see by the VB engine number its only 46 numbers into the sequence.

The engine number is AWB00001A is WL49569. Its an XT5 engine. The car is complianced 9/79 but its PSN is consistent with HZ complianced 8/79. The sad thing though is, both Holden/Statesman (Zx sequence) and Commodore (Vx sequence) are basically lock-step at this stage so I don't know if the engine number is in Holden or Commodore sequence. Later WB were in the Commodore sequence but hard to know for this one.

Yes, Bedford were silver.

Bedford big Trucks 4.2L and 5.0L V8's are painted silver.
Bedford CF Vans all are red ?

Yes, plus Bedford CF cab-chassis too. They were low comp red 173 until a point then all became high comp red 202.

No, they were in the VB-VS Commodore sequence.
