I have an odd problem with the left rear lights intermittently stopping working for the stop light mostly and now the blinker.

About 6 months ago the brake light stopped working. I thought it was time for a new bulb but the dealer (timing coincided with a service) want over $600. I got an auto electrician in and the bulb was fine but he cleaned the connection in the multi pin box (I don’t know what it’s called) and all was good.

Then the other day the LH rear blinker stopped working and threw up a dash message. I took it to a local mechanic and they changed the bulb, everything was working fine - I checked - then some hours later the blinker again stopped working and the brake light stopped working with both throwing up the messages.

Due for rego in a few weeks.

Anyone else experienced this?

In the meantime I’ll go hunting for the auto electrician’s card.

My first thought would be an earthing issue.

Your auto electrician did it before, but re-cleaning around the base of the bulb housing and the body of the car where it sits to get a good earth contact may help.

I should of said. If it is an earth issue, put the blinker stalk on so the blinkers are going (or supposed to front ones will be), if not working at the rear, put your hand on the housing whilst in place and blinker is supposed to be on and wiggle it.

Obviously if it then starts working it is an earth issue.

Thanks. It seems like an intermittent fault at the moment - works once or twice, doesn’t work the other 20 times. Then will work again once or twice, next outing.
Which is a pain.
