Ben says this engine number is right at the first appearance of the Canadian 327 V8 in GTS327, somewhere probably in the first 5 or so of them at Dandenong. Which means it is a hybrid car with some first type engine stuff and some second type stuff. Do you have a carby with it?

Guess for chassis number is between HK40500MM and HK40700MM, could easily be HK4058xMM. Nailing the PSN is a lot harder.

The steering box date aligns perfectly with the engine number for HK GTS327 fitment in late December 1968.

I know this is an old topic, but have we since found any earlier eng/vin numbers for the use of the K engine in Dandynong?

And while I'm here, what is the earliest known Eng/Vin number for the 327 GTS in Dandynong?

Thanks,

Ben Stewart may have an earlier number for Dandenong that the subject one in this topic.

I have all 6 (bar one) of the PSN and engine number details for the 81837 vehicles in the Press Fleet and also some used at the release in Surfer's Paradise. But they are all Elizabeth build except for one Dandenong car, and that is the one I don't have details for apart from its PSN J124572. These are potentially not the first 81837 cars though, most of them were at Lang Lang on 11th July 1968, and GTS/GTS327 volume production commenced about 1st July give or take a few days. The first GTS327 wasn't an 81837 though, it was an Elizabeth 80737 with XT2 option, that was the car used for the Director's showing that ended up un the UK, it was completed in the first week of May 1968 or close to it. J124572 could potentially be the first Dandenong GTS327 as none of the pilots were GTS327's. If it isn't it'll be in the first few cars.

Thanks, was wondering about J126346 and just how early it was, and trying to tie down a "build date" as close as poss. Would be interesting if Ben has any newer details, do you know what the car line output per day was running at around that time?

Ben is your guy for build date estimates. I have no real idea for Dandenong HK, only ever really been interested in Pagewood production as that is where both of my early July 1968 HK GTS's were made.

No, and you may have trouble getting hold of him. Try emailing HHS.

Ben no longer lists his email or a phone number on his HHS website.
Initial contact is via snail mail.
