Hi guys,
My son bought a VS V8 ute.
Randomly and annoyingly, it seems to trigger VATS while driving (my assumption) due to a brief flash of the security LED and CEL, which you wouldnt even notice unless you are looking at it, dash cluster dropping out (which is very noticable) and some weirdness to the engine (presumably fuel cut)
Along with code 31 after a paperclipping to the ALDL port.
We changed the keyfob and tweaked the slip rings but its still happening.
Is there anything else worth checking before I ragequit and pay a Man to turn off VATS as a test, and probably never turn it back on?

SIII... VS V8? and any other codes being thrown? you got a scanner you can check with? also you had a look at both the PCM and BCM in the car to see if any previous possessor of this set of wheels has had a hack at the wiring/wiring connector to these modules? people think a quick snip of a coupla bits of wire will disable it (it does not!) |

Im not sure if its series 3, built 8/98 if that helps.
I havent had time to go properly digging around under the dash but a near 30yr old car is bound to have some shenanigans if not just wear and tear.
I dont have anything capable of reading ALDL but have been researching half reasonable scantools that will do his car and hopefully my VZ for a bit more in depth analysis when fault finding but I believe there isn't any way to turn off the VATS without pulling the eeprom and having the right software so if I can find someone in SE melbourne who has the equipment and can do it, that's where I'll go.

8/98 is VSIII. It should still have the flat tappet VS 5.0L. These only had a single O2 sensor and a rectangular throttle body cover. |
