The special thing was the price, not the car. It was just a bone stock HT V8 Kingswood optioned with disc brakes, a tyre option and sports wheel covers, sold at a discount. They were all the same other than two different trims. The only thing you really cannot tell is if it isn't one, or it was built outside a certain timeframe.

It will make zero difference to its value if it is or isn't, anyone could have walked in and ordered a dead stock white with blue or gold trim HT V8 Kingswood sedan with front discs, or even bought one out of GMH stock. The big difference for the White Hot car was it was cheaper. GMH's aim was to showcase the new 253 hence the bulk build of them and sale cheaper than ordering the same thing. The chances are if it was built in the right timeframe it will be one though, there was a large number built (like 5000 or so) and unless people wanted a 4spd or an auto most people would have bought one at the cheaper price rather than order one and wait, or pay a significant amount more for an identical car that wasn't white. I would hazard a guess that with 5000 of these built, they would be more common than an identical specification (other than paint/trim) HT V8 Kingswood sedan. Possibly more common than all other HT V8 Kingswood sedans combined. 5000 cars is like 2.5-3% of total HT production.

The only bad thing about HT V8 3spd's compared to HG is the gearbox was close ratio like a HT M21 4spd, coupled with a 3.08 rear axle. So would have been a pig towing or dragging a boat out of the water or reversing a trailer. For HG they reverted to the 6cyl ratios in the 3spd which had a 1st gear like a HQ M20 4spd manual.

None of that will stop an Auctioneer from spruiking. It will be good for you though. Someone will want it, but being an auction will potentially end up paying overs for it. One car I'm kicking myself I never kept was a HT V8 Kingswood sedan. It was optioned with a 308 powerglide car with 2.78 LSD. Beige, white roof, beige trim and bench seat. Only reason for getting the car was for the 308, Powerglide and nodular banjo centre. It was a good rust free car with mint trim. Mate swapped the drivelines over with a HK Premier sedan that was a 186 Powerglide, and onsold the HT. I did look at using it for a demo derby but he got a few thousand for it.

The correct terminology is HG V8 (Belmont or Kingswood or Premier) sedan. Silver Mist metallic on a HG Kingswood sedan would be fairly uncommon.

The wagon, the easiest engine swap would be a Holden V8. They fit easier. What are its tag details? GMH didn't generally have left over stuff, everything was procured to schedule, it was generally only long lead time stuff like imported engines and transmissions that ended up as excess (or shortfalls). Near the end of HG there was some stuff you could no longer order, like 4spd manuals outside of GTS or certain trim colours. There was sometimes actual trim left over (as in vinyl or cloth) and they did special trim runs to use it. A common example is the HQ Kingswood sedan with "sports trim" - they had excess houndstooth trim insert material and flogged them off as something special. There were also some HT and HG Belmonts that used HK and HT trim, they had C and D trim codes from memory.

I have too many Monaros to see me out, have to work on them. What I would really like though is a mint restored or Survivor 6cyl HK (or possibly HT-G ute) that doesn't need any work. I'd turf the 6cyl junk out of it and put an injected 5.0L in it with whatever gearbox it has, I'd leave it column 3spd or auto. But upgrade to W body brakes and a better diff (I have a few laying around, like an XY GT diff that has been converted, or a HG 10-bolt I also have sitting there unused for 25 years).
