Hi Guys,

Sorry if this one has been answered before, couldnt find it anywhere. What size jets and rods should be used on a fairly standard 308. I've been told 76 for auto and 77 for manual jets, and I have 48K and 51P rods. I've been having a bit of trouble trying to get the thing to work, having taken it apart about 10 times now. The float looks good, all new gaskets, seat, needle, check ball and screw, pump, adjustment screws. It's running really rich but can't seem to get a good adjustment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi HZPrem

Std 308 Quad 77C(manual) and 76C(auto) where secondaries are "AN". 48K and 51P rods suit the later style of QUAD. WIth fuel inlet from the front, not the side.

How is your vacuum to ur carby ? Does it idle OK ? You need to supply good vac

Also check your float is not soaking up fuel and sinking, I had one years ago with the same symptoms. The coating on the float had perished and allowed it to soak up fuel.

Pete.

Thanks guys, that helps a lot - will check the float and vacuum tonight. To my way of thinking, if its running too rich, it would be a case of either the rod is not seating in the jet at idle or totally wrong needle for the jet. Is there a standard sett

the way the later models carbs can be set up, the idle jets could go in so far they could almost stall the engine at idle. I would need to check my notes to be sure.

you can tune these things jets and rods, but getting parts for em is the hassle unless you have a heap of junker carbs to rat, they are worth the hassle to set up.
