All the numbers are spot on for a Maranello Red VH SS 4.2L
Engine number is correct for the period of the car (based on lists of chassis vs tag vs engine numbers that I keep).

663 is listed in the bible of build numbers, matching the tag numbers you have there, and being built in October 82.
It doesnt specify if its Group 1, 2 or 3 - you would need to see HDT for the build papers to establish that - www.hdt.com.au

I notice from your profile you are in Melbourne.
Look up these guys sometime: www.bcoaa.com
I know quite a number of their members & committee in Victoria, and they are a great bunch of Brock fanatics.

thanks for that , its still got in it the original radio and equaliser along with some other bits that all have group 3 written on them so itd be most likely to be a real group 3 wouldnt it? the chances of a non group 3 to have the group3 stereo in it would be pretty slim. also does that book say how many vh gp3s were made with 253s?

cheers

Me personally, I prefer the clear front indicators off the VK, compared to the orange VH ones, but Im more partial to shadowtone SL/Es, and the clear works well with the silver.

The radio packages were independant of the car - theres Group 3s out there with Group 1 stereos, and vice-versa.

Youll only know exactly what it is by contacting HDT. You can purchase copies of the build papers. I was lucky - they had 8 pages of info on my car.

There are numerous 4.2L Group 3s out there - I dont know the exact number off the top of my head but its under 50 (out of around 320 odd), and the numbers are always open to conjecture due to incomplete & innacurate records - human errors that have crept in & perpetuated over time is one of the main causes too.
