There is a 330ci stroker kit for a 308 thinking about using. Wondering if its a good idea as an alternative to the 355 ci type. It includes the crank(not sure of origin or machining that has to be done), longer conrods and 327 flat top pistons.

Was this a common stroker kit. Been told its more straightforward than other strokers for the 308. Any advice would be great.

Thanks,
Ado

327 pistons will be too tall and need to be machined. A 350 stroker will probably work out cheaper nowadays.

Pro stroke claim there is no problem with their kits.
the 329 kit costs $1999 and the 355 costs $2799

but there are other factors to consider...especially drive train strain......a 329/330 is only a slight increase in torque

Note: I havnt used any of these kits...just offered an opinion

why would you bother for a "slight increase in torque"?

If your cube limited go the baby stroker, these were the done thing in the olden days because offset grinding a crank was the only way to get more cubes, clint at pro stroke was one of the first in this country to make cut and shut cranks available to the public (harrop et al were doing it in the olden days, but only for their drag cars and certainly not for joe average)

I cant think of any real good reason NOT to go straight to a 3.48" crank and be done with it, otherwise save your money and leave the stock crank in it.

Pro stroke 355* kit seems expensive, COME are a fair bit cheaper, you could likely piece together something using standard rods, harrop/come holden crank and an acl piston for much less, but by the time you piss fart around resizing rods, fitting arps, and balancing, youd likely be able to buy a new stronger set of rods anyway.

*(i cant remember who the pedant is for cubic capacities, but try finding a 308/304 bore that will get away with a hone only, then try and find a piston in standard size that will do the job, besides, "they" advertise it at 355 because they supply +0.030" pistons in the kit lol)

Sure seems like the 355 is the way to go for stroked 308s. Its just that this 330ci stuff became available. I can see the logic of going as big as possible rather than half way.

Thanks guys!

Holden/HSV 350s do also come up from time to time as well. Use it as is or transfer the internals over to an earlier block (with new pistons, bearings as needed) and sell the block to someone who wants it!

a few years ago 3.48 cranks were reasonably expensive (i know, because i paid 3k for a kit :() but shop around and keep an ear to the ground and youd nearly find a whole built bottom end for that money.

(just steer WELL clear of anything from a certain sydney based shop on egay lol)
