Hi, does anyone know of any Road Legal HRs fitted with a big block chev. Interested to know whats involved ie body, suspension, mechanical modifications needed to make this happen, or are they just too darn big and heavy. Seen them in drag HR's but not in street cars. cheers

You might sneak a 366 big block through rego, but why bother when you can go 377 in a small block. 427 or thereabouts is about the max for a HK in NSW, so I imagine a 396 would be pushing it in a HR. Do you know the weight of the heaviest HR sedan? 186 auto I imagine would be the heaviest.

big block chev into HR or any holden from EJ is very do-able as the external measurements from edge of head to head is 1 1/8" wider than 308 Holden.
your best bet is to get a LH-UC Torana front end and modify to suit HR subframe, which immedaitely gives you rack and pinon, V8 disc brake which can be altered to vented and larger rotors, and most impotantly, the X member has oil pan relief in it to suit HQ type chev oil pan.
use you auto HR column, and you LH-UC knuckles and splined shafts for intermiade steering shafts. depending on tranmission selection, you can use thr HR column and adapt linkages to make it shift from colum.
brake booster must be remote, biy cylinder can stay on firewall, but you can use a tarago set up which should fit neatly under the dash, although having said that, the booster still will have to be remotely mounted. use cylinder from VR-VS commodore.
pipes will be pain the the butt, especially if you building a tuff engine, as 2" primarys will be tight.
there will be other little stuff you will need to do, but the above is just what i can think of now

In NSW the largest engine is then 0.294 x 1235kg = 363ci.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.a...difications_nov_2007.pdf

If/when the National COP is adopted, you will be able to have:

1235kg x 5 (in cc) = 6175cc = 6.175L = approx 377ci which incidently is a 302/327/350 with a 3.75" stroke (sometimes incorrectly called a 383).

I wonder if theyll still allow you to perform extreme mods to a car, engineer it well enough and register it as an ICV (individually constructed vehicle)? I believe thats still how the kit cars do it.
