So team
Whats the best way of rendering the vehicle imovable and less stealable?
I intend the HG to be looked after, but I also want to leave it places from time to time where I can't see it and still enjoy myself.
Preferably something that doesn't effect the EFI system....
Cheers

First rule... they will steal it if they want to. Second rule... refer rule 1.
Have it well insured and try not to leave it in harms way. Fit a battery isolator switch with a removable key. Fit a kill switch. Use a clublock with the wheels on full lock. Always try to park it in a position which would make it harder for a tilt tray to drag it out. At home or wherever you store it try to keep it out of sight and park it in. Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. Insure it, do what you can to protect it and then relax about it, these cars can drive you mad if you think about theft too much.

i have a kill switch on my electric fuel pump. when im going to park i turn off the fuel pump and run the carbie empty. if you use a club lock as 80569K said. make sure you put the long end into the front piller. you see so many people have it poking out the left side, why give a thief a lever to snap your steering lock.

Im afraid if they want it bad enough, nothing you do will stop them taking it. Maybe get a huge mean dog that will rip their throats out and let it sleep in the car.

fit a alarm that has a shock sensor and a trigger switch on the bonnet and doors, this will make it harder to tow, also visual deterants like clublocks will deter inexperinced or lazy theifs, try to park in well lit areas at night, fuel lock outs are good and so are hidden kill switches
basicly anything that makes it diffulicult and time consuming to steal is good

It is all about making your car less enticing than the next. if your car is targetted, bad luck it is gone. The opportunist thief / joyrider wont put much effort in. A noisy alarm, immobiliser, kill switch, electric fuel pump cutout, battery isolator (with removable key) are what I currently use. If I am feeling more nervous, I also have a club I can pop on as well.

all the above are good, when at home lock it away, mine are garaged and if I go on run somewhere I put it where I can see it.

Id go for the fuel cut off-something that lets the ****s get going then the car dies a hundred yards up the road. My theory is that they aint going to stick arround to sort it. Against a tilt tray- well what can you do? if someone wants it enough, they will drag it away, with every alarm wailing. Satelite tracking is all I can think of to hopefully catch the ****s.
Lastly, & I dont know if its feasible, how about something like a line locker that keeps pressure onto the brakes of one axle? You would put your foot on the brakes, and use some kind of valve?? to trap pressure in say the front brakes.

I used to do the same thing when I didnt have an alarm fitted. My thoughts were that the crook would have to be pretty clued up to guess the dizzy rotor was missing.

Magnavolt... loved it.
However and unfortunately, using a mantrap will get you far deeper in the s***e than any thief will ever get.

Im with Cheezel. Back in the 80s a mate of mine had a tidy LC GTR. He parked it in the middle of town. Would be thieves broke into it, hotwired the ignition bypassed the kill switch & removed his steering wheel lock.
The only thing that stopped them driving off in the car was the rotor button in his wifes handbag.
If you are going to fit a kill switch fit one that short circuits the ignition so that if the vehicle is hot wired the thief will still get no spark.
If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

Similar to the megavolt I reckon a switch that splits power from the coil trigger to a 2nd coil that is hooked up to an isolated pad on the top of the gearstick would be a nice way to say thankyou to a would be theif. I also like the jaycar screamer kits. A couple of them mounted behind the drivers and passangers seat is what Im using in the ute as a way to say thankyou to anyone who takes it for a joyride - a total of ~120db of high pitched scream less than a foot away from your ear is going to be nasty. http://www.jaycar.com.au...creamer+kit&form=KEYWORD___________________ Why are you reading this, you should be looking up there^^ - HJ turbotonner looks and goes like a sneezing rhino on heat! - |

I love the idea of that screamer thing... wonder if they have old fashioned one which had a modulated tone which upset the thiefs middle ear and made for instant nausea.

Yes flashing strobe lights are also a very unpleasant thing to be around too. Make them Blue and red and that will get the attention of the cops if the thief chooses to drive off with earmuffs on.
I set up a computer lab with sirens and flashing strobes. We were not allowed to alarm the building with movement sensors so I wired a switch to the bottom of each computer. Lift the computer or cut the alarm wires and you were in for a lights and sound show.
If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you. |
