hi, im new to this and was wondering if any one can help decode some id numbers ona ht coupe i am looking at on the weekend and i am just doing some homework before i get to view it.
the owner has only given me 2 plates of info, neither states the build date etc.is this correct for a ht coupe to only have two plates?
the plates info i have is as follows.

model.ht80837a
body.1****b
trim.1193 11x
paint.567 11425

80837th1*****

this is all the info the owner can find as far as the tags go.does this seem right?
how can i tell what size v8 it had as well as what box ?
he says that it has the original motor in it.how wil i match engine number to car to no if it is original?
thanks for any help out there, mono

The box was an auto, and as the car is a two tag car it would be powerglide. without the rest of the info it is impossible to say if it was 253, 307 or 308.

Daytona Bronze with antique gold trim V8 GTS from Brisbane

Canot see if it seems alright without all the numbers.

Once again you need all the numbers to match it to teh engine number

john, warren needs the entire plate numbers without the ********s and the entire engine number to see if they all correlate.

without the complete vin, body and engine numbers your guess would be as good as anyones as to whether the car is the real deal or not

cheers

Firstly, if someone "copies" your tags what would they do with them? They have nothing to do with ownership of your car and if they put them on another Monaro there is still a chance that it will turn up at the same nationals as yours and questions will then be asked. Easier to use Kingswood tags to make fakes than actual Monaros.

Secondly, all the numbers provided are for 10/69 cars, so there is a good possiblity that they are all from the same car, however you did not supply chassis number so these tags and engine may hav been from another Monaro and all placed onto this one. Check chassis number.

Hi John

Im new to this to, and Im sure someone will correct me if Im wrong.

My car is a 8/70 HG from Brisbane and does have 3 tags.

On mine, the chasis number is stamped into the firewall and matches whats on my third tag.

This is the ADR tag specifying what ADRs the car complies with and also gives you the chasis number (which should match whats stamped in the firewall) and the build date.

Find the chasis number and engine number and Warren will be able to complete the picture.

Cheers

Jeremy

JPB308 is right, the only tag that alligns with the chassis number is the compliance plate, for which a 10/69 does not have. After VN/Late JE the VIN and chassis number become the same.

HGGTS, Adelaide down stamped in those days, whilst all other plans up stamped at that stage.

Some VIN plates have the model number stamped down and the rest up, but these are extreemly rare.

Hope this helps

Thats right.

You need the chasis number stamped in the fire wall and the engine number.

I dont think theres a way to guarantee the numbers match, but Warren can tell you if it seems to make sence in terms of vehicle manufacture vs engine manufacture....

Geez. I think Im getting the hang of this stuff...

:)

Cheers

Jeremy
