Does anyone have any information on identifying features for Holdens that were used as police pursuit cars in the early seventies. Any info greatly appreciated.
Cheers Dave

In those days they had general duties and highway patrol in most states. The highway patrol used a variety of high performance cars, such as GTRs, GTs, RTs, cooper S etc. Terry explained that they did not use the XU1 as it was too hard to keep in tune.

Things to look for on Police cars is the speedo, which has 2MPH/km/H incriments rather than 5.

The BT1 pack that everyone talks about was a Victorian Police pack, which I have found back inhe HX range, it was on 253 powered cars.

Adding to what Warren has said, some of the models had the speedo on the passenger side of the instrument cluster(HZ COP CARS)this was so the other officer could relay the messages in a pursuit and get the correct speed ,and some valiants(going back now.)had police stall converters in and they had police just written on them, but they were pretty quick,318 fireball,904 trans.

Yes, 72 & 73 XU1s were used but in very small numbers. The vast majority of LJ Torana NSW Police cars were stock GTRs.

The reason I have asked about information I believe my LC XU1 (originally sold in Victoria) may have been an ex police car. The reasons being is that I posted pics on the GMH Torana forum of mysterious holes in the rear floorpan of my car as I could not work out what they may have been for. The main consensus was that they are hancuff bar anchorage points. The car also has two holes on the left handside beside the rear of the glovebox apparently they may have been for the police ID tag. The other mysterious holes are on the left hand side of the firewall maybe to run wiring through for the police radio?. So I suppose I am trying to get some sort of confirmation and anything else to look for. Thanks for the help so far in piecing together the history of this car.

Like I said I have been informed that they had handcuff anchorage points I have never seen a pic to prove it either I would like to see a pic. But supposedly the hancuff anchorage points were quite common in police cars not exclusively to XU1s or GTRs.
