I have a 97 may build vs ute. On the manufacture plate says it has a m39 gearbox. Can anyone please tell me if that has a borg warner gearbox or t5. Also if it has a single plate or dual mass flywheel.

AFAIK M39 is a T5, and should be a normal flywheel.

Hi Guys.

A T5 is a Borg Warner box.

I thought that M39 was the PO number for the imported Borg Warner T5-G 5-speed in VK-VL SS Group A models.

From VN onwards the Borg Warner T5 was called the M78.

At May 97 your VS is a Series II, so if it is a V6 your gearbox will be an M35 Getrag 260 with a dual mass flywheel. If yours is a V8 it will be an M78 Borg Warner T5.

Late VSII & VSIII V8s use an M34 Getrag 290 box.

Does the body plate definitely read M39 ?

Dr Terry.
