What is a good starter motor to use for a 253 red motor..??? I want to change my points dizzy to a HEI and was thinking might change the starter motor at the same time.
Thanks Michael.

the points to HEI is a great upgrade
is there anything wrong with you currant starter? you can get the reduction drive starters, they sound like blenders, personally i dont like them, no real reson other that the original ones have alway been good to me, so why change?

Yes, the reduction drive starters do sound funny. However, they are higher torque, lower current draw. Smaller to get out, if you have extractors

yes, they would be designed to fit around the starter, if you do change starters all 253-308 starters fit including VN-5.0/ VT, no reason to change unless your current one is malfunctioning. may pay to change battery leads if the current ones are very old.
