Hey Guys,

I thought i would start my first post by asking for some help regarding my 1977 HX ute on Duel Fuel

It runs a VK 308, Auto, with LSD Salsbury diff 3.08 ratio.

I bought and built the ute in 2003 and never had an issue until now. During the last few weeks with the hot weather, the ute will start no probs on LPG but breaks down under Load. Has no acceleration what so ever. On cold mornings it runs like a charm but as the weather warms up the worse she runs.

LPG usage has basically doubled since this issue.

Runs perfectly fine on Petrol.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated !

ur converter might b buggered ...........
is ur radiator ok ? Perhaps a blockage is not getting the water through to the converter at the desired flow ? Generally the convertor is the culprit and it may well be due for a overhaul .

Also, Check your cooling system. If you are low on coolant, the converter will freeze up. the gas system requires hot continuous heat (coolant) to keep the gas from freezing everything.
Mine used to do what you described. Found my coolant levels were low, but not to low for the temp gauge to register as overly warm or hot. The hoses from the cooling system to the gas converter are higher than the rest of the cooling system hoses.
Also, you could have low pressure in your radiator which will cause the same thing. No hot coolant to the gas converter = frozen converter!! No gas to cylinders.

Thanks for the reply guys.

Looks like it might have to be a process of elimination.

My Mechanic believes its a converter problem but admitted his knowledge with gas systems was a bit so so.
I then went and asked the advice of an LPG specialist and he believes its a Leads and coil issue.
And reading here Ive checked my coolant levels and found them to be fairly Low.

So Ill start with the Coolant first as of course it is the cheaper option and give the radiator a flush out while Im at it.

Process of elimination to find issue with ute that is unable to run on gas during hot days.

Flushed out radiator and refilled with coolant additive - No Good

Changed Leads and replaced Coil with A electronic ignition coil - Still no Good - But, bloody starts well though !!!

Might be time to change converter

Did you flush the converter on its own?

If you hook it up to the garden hose you will be suprised at the crap that comes out of them.
