Can anyone confirm whether a Banjo 2.78:1 diff centre yoke is interchangeable with the yoke on a Banjo 3.08:1 diff centre?

I should have been a little more specific here.

Current setup: 253ci with aussie 4spd, 2.78:1 diff with 6 cylinder yoke so Im also assuming 6 cylinder tailshaft.

I just bought a 3.08:1 diff centre with V8 yoke with the intention of changing centres over. Fearing Ive stuffed up here, can the 6 cylinder yoke be swapped over to the shorter diff or is my only option to change the tailshaft to V8?

Get a V8 tailshaft. Is it for the HT?

Look for a "yellow" shaft from a HT-HG with Holden V8 with 3spd, Powerglide or Trimatic with banjo. 56.08" long. This tailshaft is probably the most common HT-HG V8 shaft, the only other banjo V8 shaft is the "pink" one which suits 307 Powerglide or 253 Saginaw. Greg at ClassicOzwreck should have one out of a HT or HG Brougham, and I think he wrecked a 253 trimatic HG at some stage.
Note that you might also be able to try a much more common shaft, the HQ-HZ "white" shaft, which is 56.22" long (3.556mm longer). Youll find these in HQ sedan or coupe with 253/308, or HJ-HZ V8 manual sedan or coupe.
Both of these shafts are 2.75" diameter and use the same yoke and unis. Im not sure if the 3.5mm extra length makes a big difference - ask a tailshaft manufacturer first.

Thanks Byron. I have sent Greg a message to see if he can help me out.

Do you think the aussie 4 speed will dictate a different length of shaft to that of the powerglide or trimatic? Not having performed the V8 conversion in the first place and also not being an expert in interchanging parts its a little like second guessing everything.

I wonder has Dr Terry got any thoughts since he has seen the underside of the old girl first hand?

Aussie 4spd is the identical length to Aussie 3spd (M15) and trimatic (M40) and powerglide (M35) behind 253/308.

Excellent. Well that should make things a little easier to sort out. Cheers Byron.
