Gurus,
Just trying to get some concrete info. Will a VN diff go under a HG? Im mainly chasing width wise. Has anyone done it? I don't want to change the offset on my rims.

not concrete...but i believe they are a close fit...i do know however that if you have the right side of a vn to vs shortened to fit the left axle it fits perfectly under an lj torana...

Hey Shorty why are you wanting to fit a VN diff to the HG?
Is it for the disc brakes set up?
I ask because I have converted my HG Salsbury diff to disc brake by using aftermaket axles that I got made up. I got the axles made with the Commodore stud pattern and to fit my Salsbury diff and so as not to affect the HG offset of the wheel.
You could have the HG stud pattern instead of the Commodore stud pattern to get around changing the stud pattern on the rims.
You just have to deceide whether to source and modify(if needs be) a VN diff or modify the HG diff you already have?

If you want some info let me know.

Nicho

I dont know whether it would fit or not but the last VN diff that I measured came out at 1550mm wide between wheel mounting faces.

VN onwards are a fair bit wider, VB-VL are closer fit.

I have a VN diff in my HG Panno , and i am running GTS rim centres welded into 15 inch x 8 rims...it has an ofset about an inch more negative than standard...so i think it was 4.5 inch negative offset ( inwards ) .... the 265 Mastercraft tyres fit very snug ...but as you know these are custom rims ! From behind it looks good and fat , and from the side it looks sort of stockish in the dish of the rims...
a standard HZ rim will fit good, but for wider you have to dish them in... 17 inch Commodore rims looked very good, but i had trouble with ball joint clearance up front...3 mm ...so it was a bit too close :-)
In a nutshell, they fit ok, but to get stock width you have to shorten the axles / housing... i did mine cos i was after a cheaper alternative to a 10 bolt / 9 inch. At this stage at least !

Hi There was a V8 3.08-1 ratio VL disc brake diff on ebay, I do not think it sold.
I am not sure how strong they are.
Item no 320503355742 he might measure it up for you if he still has it.
