Hi all Just wanted to start a debate about the factory finish of the HK-G (and HQ for that matter) big nut' master cylinders. I have had varying opinion from a couple of very knowledgable and passionate officianados of these vehicles. The first opinion is that they came from factory with the vehicles raw and all the replacement parts came painted black. The second opinion is that they were all black (from factory and spares)and the raw ones that have been seen were recos that didn't get repainted. Maybe again it was one of those 'which factory was the car made' things? I'm sure there's another 3 or 4 people here that are just as well informed - maybe we can come to a concensus. (Unlikely as that is!!!) PS - here's a photo of one I picked up locally which of course i now know is a HQ one...... Cheers Jeremy The G will roll again.... |

i have 2 HK - G master cylinder bodies still in the GMH box and the finish is raw... I sold aabout a year ago on evilbay a HQ body and it was raw as well..
as i am talking about a replacement part i cannot guarantee how it was built into the car new...
if the supplier delivered the booster and master cylinder assembled then there is every chance it was painted upon assebly but I could not be certain... someone will know... and a release brochure showing pics of the engine bay would be a good starting point

Well as brake fluid is a very effective paint stripper it would stand to reason that they were raw as one spilled drop on the first service or even the PD when checking the fluid level would render a painted one no longer looking new.
On HRs they were raw but of course those old single circuit jobbies were an alloy housing.
The one on my Parents HG was raw & the car was almost 8 when they purchased in back in 1978. As the M/C failed in about 1980 I would say that it was the original.
Vandals and graffiti "artists" do everyone a favour and target parking meters and fixed speed cameras only. |
