Hi, I have an old vp commodore paddock basher. It is v6 auto and will not start. Turns over fine but no kick. How do you check if the fuel pump is working? Have not checked spark yet as it is still stuck down the paddock.

Theres 2 fuel lines that run up the firewall & into the fuel rail via flexible hose.
Rather than try to suss out which is feed & return, just squeeze both those flex hoses while someone turns the key to ignition. The fuel pump should run for 4 seconds and then stop - it will pressurise those hoses if its working.

At the same time while youre holding those hoses, listen for the click of the fuel pump relay in the fuse box near the battery.

Thanks heaps, I saw the fuel lines, will give it a crack. The fuel pump is in the tank? How do you get it out if it is stuffed? Thanks for your help.

Before you go looking to swap the pump, if this is the fault, give the tank a thump with a rubber hammer near the diff as this is the end where the pump is located. They are notorious for internal faults.

Will try that, might have a chance to have a look at it in the morning. Could be that cause it did the same thing a while ago and then mysteriously fixed itself over night.

there easy to change, jack up the back of the car and theres a plate with 4 bolts on the front of the tank facing the diff, there will be fuel lines coming out of it, undo the bolts and pull the pump out, easy as that

I dont think so Byron, why for you ask? It is actually not a bad car. It has a miss but the AC works so what more could you ask for?

Ha Ha, good point. At least no one will steal it. Actually its a toyota lexen, so that may explain it.

Thanks heaps for the advice, I gave the fuel pump a few taps and away it went. I checked the fuel line for pressure first and the relay was clicking so assumed it had to be the pump.
Thanks for saving me heaps of frustration!
