Hi, Has anyone on here ever found a web site or data base that has number plates matched up with approximate release dates. I am looking for what numbers a car may have been registered with in the second half of 1969 early 1970. thanks oily.

Best I can suggest is to check out ebay or muscle car sales for cars with original plates.
I went direct to the Qld Dept of Transport Privacy unit and although records from that era were not kept my car had a plate change in the 1990s and the original plate details were recorded at that time.

Pete is in the ballpark, mine is a March 68 HK and was first regod in Brisbane as PEM###
I have seen plenty of HKs with P series plates, there was one on ebay with PET### recently.
Qld is a big state and at that time had a much smaller population so its feasible that country registrys could still be issuing O plates to HKs. I remember that Warren said something about this sort of thing, hopefully he will chime in.

Yes 80569HK, aras were sent batches of plates, so the plate your car got depended on the area it was sold. Same happened in other states also.
I had an old "glasss" guide and it listed the plates issued each year or month so that dealers could tell ho old a car was from the rego numbers, this was essensial for pre 1970 cars.

Did get some info from Glass's re what Warren said. It appears that Qld O plates were issued late '73, after P plates. That should clear up some confusion amongst our readers, me included. So to correct myself, Petes HK must have had a plate reissue between '73 and '77. For Oily, 1969 started at PKD156 and 1970 started at PNY012. They also say what Warren said about country issues lagging behind a bit. On Muscle Car Sales there is a HT first rego'd in Toowoomba in Sept '69 as PMU### and on ebay is a '69 Cortina GT first reg Feb '69 as PKT###. Hope that helps.
