Worth really good money to the owner of the original car it came from. Otherwise, in reality worth no more than any other QT, 11QT etc block in the same condition, although some fools out there seem to pay stupid $ for a HT prefix block, just like they are paying ridiculous $ for JL and 2600S prefixed blocks not original to their car!

But Byron, you have probably said yourself that a block is worth what someone is willing to pay.
I'm chasing a CF... (2850S) block, but I am willing to wait years so I won't be paying ridiculous $.

David, you are right. Anything is worth what someone is willing to pay. If I were you though I wouldn't bother, as just having a CF block doesn't make your GTR worth anything more than if it has a CE or CD or whatever, unless of course the CF is original! It might make a difference at a car show to onlookers, but not to potential buyers or Judges for factory restored etc. By all means pay up to $1,000 for a CF, but don't pay thousands like you see with 2600S blocks.

Hi Byron, Jim,
I take your point Jim.
Byron, I thought getting a block dated a month or two before the car was assembled would be as good as having the original block ?? Can people confirm whether a block is the original block rather than a non-original produced a month or two before the car?
I wasn't aware people were paying that sort of money for 2600s. 173S were only fitted for 6 months. I don't think there are any left (except in original cars that will keep them).
David

David,I know you asked Byron, but I'll give you my view on this. Original engines can be check on some vehicles(Byron will answer that more accurate)and only really good to that car, however a time period engine such as you mentioned (a month or two earlier) is the 2nd best you can do,and is what I would do for a collectable car.As stated before ,wait till one comes around at the right price, remmember the engine is really only special to the one car and most likely a car that doesn't exsist anymore. So no need to pay a high price...just my opinion Dave,,good luck with your search.

Jim has pretty much nailed it, but such an engine is 3rd best really. 2nd best would be an NF block, if one ever existed!

Thanks Jim, Byron.
In the mean time, I have a '202S' with blue internals to fit to the Torana - when I get time (January 2015).
