I have been told that a 302 Boss engine is, to put it SIMPLE a 302 Windsor bottom end with 302 Close Chamber Cleveland Heads. Would that also be the case with a 351 Boss engine ie: 351 Windsor bottom end with the same Cleveland Heads as used on the 302? I am only talking the basic Block, Head configuration.

The Ford Boss 351 was a Cleveland block unlike the Boss 302 which is basically as you describe.

You can make a psuedo 351 Boss using a 351W block and fit it with modified Cleveland heads as you were (maybe still are) able to purchase special inlet manifolds to do this.

It's technically not correct to say that a Boss 302 is a Winsor block with Cleveland heads because if you actually do that without modifying the Cleveland heads you will find a massive coolant leak.

To fit Cleveland heads you have to machine a couple of square coolant holes round and fit them with welch plugs and then you have to machine a couple of new holes in the manifold face as Clevelands don't have coolant in the manifold but Windors and Boss 302's do.

Ford Made Boss heads specifically with these changes so technically they are not Cleveland heads. I don't believe that Ford USA had closed chamber Cleveland heads either as they did not have a 302C.

Vandals and graffiti "artists" do everyone a favour and target parking meters and fixed speed cameras only.

In effect;
302 Boss = Windsor block with large port closed chamber Cleveland heads (modified casting for water passage)
351 Boss = All Cleveland

With respect to cylinder head availability, the US had both open and closed chamber large port heads but only open chamber small port heads. It is the small port closed chamber heads that were only available in Aus. Also, the heads as fitted to the 302 Boss were not designed with the 302 Boss in mind. That is, Cleveland design/casting was ongoing in 1968/1969 and it was at this time that Ford engineers working on the 302 program realised how good the large port heads (as part of the Cleveland program) were and then fitted then to the 302 Windsor.
