Hi all,
How difficult is it to put a fine spline banjo diff out of a HQ into a EH? Are the axles the same length or do they have to be professionaly manufactured? Want to get one into the EH as I do a fair bit of towing for work and need to change the ratio as it's currently a 3.08. Or would it be just as practical to go and get a 3.36 or 3.55 diff and not worry about it being LSD?
Your thoughts on this please....

The diff centre in the HQ will be most likely be a 3.36 or 3.55 ratio coarse spline non-LSD, the same as what you will find in the EH. The HQ housing & axles will be way too long for the EH. The mount brackets are also totally different.

A 3.08 centre will more likely be found in a 6-cyl Torana. The later centre will fit the EH as long as it is also coarse spline. If you want to fit a fine spline centre to an EH, you will need custom axles, but is it worth the effort ?

Fine-spline axles & centres did not become commonplace until HX/LX.

goodluck finding a finespline LSD 3.08 Banjo that still works ok.
probably cost you $600

you will also have to change the bottom sump plus the one beside it to a bolt when changing 3.36 and above to 3.08 / 2.78 and vice versa

Thanks for the info guys, I'll opt out of getting a fine spline, I was only thinking of doing it because of all the towing I do with the EH Prem Wagon I use for work as a Handyman/Gardener. I've upgraded the brakes and have just had the clutch slave cylinder bracket for the Celica Steel case 5 speed I have in it explode into bits due to the stress of pushing a one tonner pressure plate and the fact, as I've just found out, that the push rod for the clutch fork is operating on a spazzy angle. Must have the wrong clutch fork and man is it hard to operate the clutch, in heavy traffic my toes on my left foot genuinely go numb and tingly from using it..

Hopefully here is a photo of the angle of the pushrod against the clutch fork...
