Hey Guys.i have bought a HJ sedan. it is a 253 car. it came with a red 308 block and crank which i like to use in place of the 253. in my shed i have a 5.0 bottom end. Can i use the 5.0 conrods in my 308 block or are they shorter as its a 304ci motor.Or is it the crank thats alittle shorter in stroke.

Crank/stroke is different. 1969 HT 253/308 right through to the last of the 304 engines in VSIII in 2000 used the same length rod and same big end journals. The rod design changed a bit over the years, but they can be interchanged (as a set).

the efi rods are fine to use, much stronger than the pre-efi rods too, get them resized and decent rod bolts fitted.

If you can get one, the acl rebuild kits are cheap and half decent for a streeter, not much else around in the way of 308/304 pistons unless you spend a decent dollar.
