Gday gday.
With the argument forever playing in my head, and the fiance' now officially sick of listening - i figured the forum might like to provide input to my debate.
Long story short i'm rebuilding a very dead 67 XR ute. Rust and body smoothing now aside, i'm focused on getting wheels back on the body before xmas. The rear-end has been reborn as a triangulated fourlink, however the front continues to perplex me. Per the subject - its going to become a mustang II setup or a coilover/strut as i want a very spacious engine bay.
The mustang II setup is my preference, and for me the pros are obviously a very compact setup, large gains in engine bay space, and relaively cheap components. The con is significant work to convert.
I am yet to form an opinion on whether or not this conversion weakens the front end geometery (requiring bracing back to the firewall) or if the substantially stronger crossmember that is replaced is sufficient. I do have questions to be answered from a legal/engineering view on the removal of the body identification that is stamped in the tower. Is this critical or can it be removed?? Is the change in suspension sufficient to warrant the car an ICV in NSW for rego purposes?? These sould be answered in the coming days though.
So all said - What is the local opinion or have you converted a falcon to mustang II suspension? were you happy?
Cheers...Phil

Adrian Seelenmeyer conversions in Castlemaine did a conversion that used a Mitsubishi Express van front end into an early Falcon but I think that the kit only went up to XP.
Give them a call they might be able to help.
MustangII front ends might be a bit slow to source parts for in Australia & I think that they are similar to a Torana or TC/TD Cortina front end in that they need the chassis rails to be quite high.
Vandals and graffiti "artists" do everyone a favour and target parking meters and fixed speed cameras only. |
