I am looking at an original HR 186s at the moment which has the opal box and every other 186s part one would expect. Trouble is, the engine number in NOT 186s, but 186 with another letter, I think it was a "K" and it scared me. The original books have that same number on it. Do you think it is a real 186s, even though the "S" is not on the engine? Any assistance much appreciated...PeterC

Thanks Ron, I had only heard of 186s, if 186k is normal, I will proceed with the purchase. It's red with a white roof, disc brakes, power booster, 2 tone grey interior, dual throat carbi, 186s speedo, has all original badges, strips and documents. Only travelled 67,000 miles and is in mint condition. Any idea what it might be worth?

186K is the prefix for HR X2 and 186S engines.
HR's have their following, so a good find. No idea on price.

Hello Dr Terry, it might have been the other gauge, but there was definately something different to a standard dashboard on one of them.

The HR 186S (like the X2 before it) had a full set of gauges in place of the fuel gauge & warning light cluster. It added a temp gauge, an oil gauge & an ammeter to the fuel gauge. There was still a GEN light & provision for a handbrake light, but deleted the oil & temp lights.

These were factory standard for all HD/HR with X2 or S engines & were also available as an option or accessory.
