Hi all,

I have a trimatic behind my 308 that is slipping like buggery in top gear. Has plenty of fluid and have tried another modulater. No vaccuum leaks and it was working fine until last Sunday. Has absolutely no problems in reverse, first or second.

The box has been in the ute for around four months or so but has only been driven regularly for about 2 and a half months of that. Towed a VH Commodore on a trailer from Newcastle to Campelltown with it in January and didn't have a spot of trouble, never looked like slipping.

The ute has sat since the first week in February as rego ran out. Renewed the rego last Tuesday and drove it a couple of times between then and the weekend.

What would be the most likely problem with the box? It is out of a WB Statey. Could the trip down from Newcastle have been enough to flog it to death? We sat on around 75kph all the way after the first big dose of trailer shake almost tipped us over ;-)

I have the trimatic out of the VH to go in it but would be interested to know if the Statey box is worth keeping and re-conditioning for use at a later stage. Also will the VH box, which came off the back of a 253, be a viable replacement.

Cheers

Kev

sounds like the bands need adjusting , take it to a transmision workshop or a good mechanic.

I don't think a trimatic has bands on top gear. Sounds more like a servo piston seal, or similar.
