Hi All,
Had a recent problem with the HQ-350, as it only comes out every week or so, found the battery to be almost dead, with not enough charge to kick her over.
It would appear from reading lots of forum chats that having CD players in olds cars, just isn�t the go. And why should it be! So, the CD player is going.
However found out the hard way that it was more than the battery and ended up needing to replace the alternator.
Received some advice to up grade the faulty Lucas 55A alternator to a higher amp unit, so went for a 100A version.
Unit was connected tested the voltage back at the battery (about 14V) all seemed good the Voltmeter was also reading around 13-14 as indicated on the gauge. Took the car for a 30 minute run and found that the volt meter had stopped working. Could this be a coincidence or are we missing something by upgrading the alternator?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

must be a cracker of a cd player lol. Get a trickle charger and disconnect the battery when not in use, only takes 2 minutes at the beginning and end of each use and extends battery life markedly on a seldom driven car
11.38@117mph will go quicker 11.34@121mph went quicker and faster, just not quick enough. now being rebuilt with less cam, much less comp, and a turbo. Edited by user Tuesday, 11 January 2011 5:16:51 AM(UTC)

Thanks for the tip, bit worried that ive stuffed the voltmeter though.

nothing you did would have hurt it (presuming you didnt do anything real silly) its probably an extraordinary coincedence. If you can be bothered crawling up under the dash, it could just be a loose plug, is it the factory gauge?

Thats what i hope, the gauge was the genuine Battery/temp gauge, am thinking that the additional amp produced by alternator may of contributed, also thought that the standard wiring may not of been sufficient, but this is only out there thoughts.
