Looking for an original HQ rear speaker grille. The one that goes in the middle of the rear shelf.

Howdy Monaro202, Im not 100% sure what I need. I've seen the perferated steel ones on a couple of HQ statesmans before but then I've seen another type in the HQ options manual so not sure what its suposed to have. What does the proper chrome one look like? Painted steel is this one I guess: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/H...ries&hash=item43a4bb4964Thanks

I haven't got a pic of the factory fitted chrome cover (as shown in the accessory pamphlet) & my 2 are packed away in the shed, from what I know the perferated strainer type are dealer fitted & came in the radio kit, bit anything is possible. If you go to youtube & find the HQ monaro driving team, in that footage you can see a orchid HQ coupe fitted with 2 of the chrome covers, which is odd as they are the wrong shape for the stereo speeker holes, but most likely factory fitted.. the one on ebay now is ok for a HQ, but if it hasn't got the speeker, you may have trouble finding one that fits, from memory they are a odd size?

Thanks for that. I'm only installing one in the centre so I think I'll just go with the painted steel type. There was two on ebay so I just snapped one up for $35. As for the speaker I'll just install a new one. Thanks again

Wayne , you cant just install a new current type speaker . It must be a 15 Ohmn type which are near impossible to get a good working one now , if you are running the original type radio that is anyway . Your radio wont last long otherwise . Cheers James www.monaromuscleparts.com

Thanks James thats handy to know. I've been doing some homework and it sounds like I need two 8 ohm 5 W resistors in series to each speaker.

Would one of these in the positive wire of each speaker do the trick? (Resistor 5 Watt 15 Ohm) http://dicksmith.com.au/...amic-cement-former-15r-5

In short, no. Speaker impedance (ohms) is a nominal value and changes with the frequency of the sound being played. Putting fixed resistors in series will change the sound from what it is supposed to be. You can however put two 8 ohm speakers in series to get a total impedance of 16 ohms.
