There is no separate HR model designated '186S', it was only an engine option.

The presence of 186S badges (or remaining holes in the correct position) & ammeter wiring would be the only other giveaways. I don't have the chassis number breaks, but it would also have to be built May '67 or later.

If the car is a 3-speed manual, all X2 & 186S have a 3-inch diameter tailshaft instead of the regular 2.75-inch.

Dr Terry.
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

HR 186S 1967, LATE 186K engine number , wiring harness, steering box plate will be stamped with number for day, month, year, which again will show late 1967, eg 1 .L. 7 = 1. 12. 67 , AND OF COURSE YOUR carburettor linkage for your WW STROMBERG will be different from you standard 186 setup. Also you will not have a choke, on your dash board it will be have plug where your choke should be , as these were fitted with an automatic one. Headers pipes are also different because thats where the automatic choke is fitted conecting to your WW STROMBERG, and one more thing your diff will be a LSD 3.55. I hope I havent forgotten anything else. dc.

Greetings, The best way is by the dash fascia. No CHOKE lettering on the fascia. A rare item at best. The blanking plug mentioned by another poster is a common item by comparison as it fits the cigarette lighter hole on a number of models.
look out, the guru is coming through...
