Does anyone know what the problem is with noisy 2003 ba diffs?I have heard it is common.Mine doesnt really make a whinning noise just more of a dull roar.It doesnt clunk or slip either. It seems to be getting worse though so Im thinking it could be some sort of bearing in the back end.Any help would be appreciated,Thanks.

I don't understand it either. Especially when my old EB went for 560,000km on it's original diff without any signs of noise and it's essentially the same diff as the BA unit (Borg Warner/BTR 78 series).

The only explanation that I can come up with is that Ford dictated a stupidly low price to BTR so BTR had to cut costs somewhere and used cheaper bearings or something.

Hi Fordfan my BA 2003 RTV ford ute had same prob at around 130,000 K's my ute has a 5.4 V8 in it and i just took it into a transmission place which gave me a reasonable price to overhaul the whole diff, cost $1000 to fix.
I took it into a few different places in perth for quotes the worst quote was from midland ford theynsaid I would have to get complete replacement diff and thats if they could find one and it would cost around maybe 4 or 5 thousand (rip off). thats one thing Ive learnt that these Ford Dealerships are useless and i think they try to stuff your cat up so maybe you would go buy another one.Like Morley Ford did a service on my RTV V8 ute they apparently used castrol oil and by 5 thousand K's it was out of oil where before I took it in there it never used any oil, so I took the rest of the oil out of it done a oil change with Penrite and now it uses no oil again
