im going to look at a HT windowless panel van later on this week
its got a 253 and a 4 speed, what number will the tags say if it came from factory like that?
also what area's of this van should i be looking for problems with.
ive driven past it many times over the past 5 weeks but every time i tell myself ill look at it next time when i have time
seem pretty straight , i think the owner may be to asking to much as he probs dont wanna sell.

Tags won't tell you anything other than the fact it is a V8 Belmont van. Model code will be 0270. Not many L32 M21 HT vans around, hope that is what it is for you. Just look for the original Saginaw linkage hump in the tunnel about where the passenger's right foot goes. Speedo cable should enter the engine bay behing the dizzy too if it is a factory Saginaw 4spd.

look for rust under the rear deck in the cargo area, spare tyre area(where it would be in a sedan-drivers side rear quarter), around the front screen, drip rails on the roof, spring hangers, subframe mounts (upper and lower & harder to see-- front crossmember mount to the subframe. You usually only find this problem after taking the engine out and dropping it off).

Spare wheel area & door, and tailgate will probably have rust. The same rust areas as the sedans of course, like floor.

If the 4 speed isnt factory, check that the gearbox crossmember is intact or at least adequately modified, not cut out like mine was. Wont pass inspection if it is.

Its all repairable.
post some pickies.

good luck

^^Agree. If someone has tried to fit an aussie 4spd they always butcher the underfloor member that supports the seats. One of my GTS327 has been butchered similarly for a toploader.

Usually the way unfortunately.
See if you can find one minus the running gear and with better body, as that is cheap to replace compared to getting a body right.
Mine had only a small bit of rust in it, yet is still heaps of work to get right.
Some on ebay at the moment.
Keep looking
