I've recently purchased a HJ caprice and fallen victim to an over zealous roadworthy cert issuer. One of the things highlighted was the body-to-chassis rubbers being presished and requiring replacement.

Questions:

1. How many mounting points are there? (Quick research says 8)

2. Can they be changed relatively easily (i.e., one at a time without completely seperating the body and chassis?)

I can't remember how many are at the back of HJ rails, so it is 8 or 10. 2 radiator support, 4 under feet, and 2 or 4 at the rear of the rails. They differ too between series and luxury levels (as HQ-WB progressed the number of rear rubbers changed on passenger vehicles and was different for different luxury levels and models).

There are four main ones either side of the car (8 in total). I wasn't planning on replacing them, but Mr Roadworthy picked them up and said they had to be changed. Question is, can I change them without dismantling the whole damn car? I want to get this on the road sooner rather than later.

Can you give me some pointers? I removed all the bolts down one side (including radiator mount). There's a bit of give in the chassis away from the body sufficient to get at the rear two, but the front three (yes, there are 10 in all, not 8 as I thought), I can't see how I can get the rubbers between the body and chassis out, especially given the new rubbers are uncompressed and substantially higher that old squashed ones.

I assume you do it with all four wheels on the ground. Do you need to take out all 10 bolts (both sides), then somehow lift the body? Reminder again that the car is complete and the only reason I'm trying to change them is for roadworthy purposes.

All good, job done - just needed to stop faffing around and get in there and do it. Not a hard job with a couple of jacks and engine stands.
