Hi guys, Have just found a 186 3spd base monaro. It is untouched with all books, drives but is only a daily driver. Two questions: What is it worth if I restore it as it is? Or will it be worth the same if i turn it into a made up V8 GTS? What do you guys think... I also know were i can get a 307, 4spd model but it needs a lot more body work and missing engine bits.Would this be a better buy in the long run.. Thanks

Dave is spot on. In many ways the Monaro is a better bet as you can modify it as you wish and not really affect its value that much, whereas a 307 4spd GTS is worth good money left as standard.
In the long run you'd be better off leaving the Monaro as is warts and all as Survivor cars are becoming more valuable, and restore the GTS either to stock or mildly modified. There are plenty of rust repair panels and also new panels (GTS guards, bonnet etc) available and floors can be sourced from a good sedan body. |
