g'Day,

did the early HD 179 HP X2 still have the generator or an alternator?

Also i have heard that there is a company on the east coast that does alternators that look like generators?

Does anyone have the details or is this just a furphy?

All the pics I have of HD motors show alternators. There has been some discussion about converting generators to alternators on the FE-FC Forum. Do a search.

No, all HDs regardless of engine type have alternators. To confuse the issue Holden called them 'diode-rectified' generators. Also the early HDs mention the word generator on the red warning label on the radiator support.

I don't know of any Aussie companies doing the 'alternator that looks like a generator' thing, but surf the net, there are several US companies that do them.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0
