Hi , hope you guys can help me out , am about to start rebuilding my HK 327 Bathurst monaro , and wanting to know what you can make of the numbers ect , will upload some pics soon ,
the car is missing its big tag stolen years ago , but the small one and the firewall number are all still there , SMALL TAG = 81837KL116160 , FIREWALL ID HK34059A , the second under letter looks like a A also ,
the car originally is warwick yellow with parchment trim , about 10 repaints ago ; ( ,

have just triple checked it , and the firewall letters are an , A and another A underneath just reading a post on the firewall stampings before or after paint debate , HKTG PARTS RECOVERY commented i think double A cars a very few and far between what about in early hk monaro , is that also the case .?? will upload a pic when i work out how

Hi, when you say it's a Bathurst Monaro, has it got race history? Does it have its CAMS log books? Going by the tag numbers you have supplied it is an Adelaide built body.
Some on here say every body had a double stamping of the letter for the build plant on the firewall. I was disputing it because I have only seen it on a couple. I have access to several and they dont have the second 'A' so the reason for it is unknown but would'nt make one rare either way with or without. |

hi , sorry i meant bathurst monaro as a hk 327 monaro , what is the correct term to call the 327 hk monaro ?? i know what you are saying about the double letters , just thought it weird to have the same letter doubled up a lot of cars talked about in past posts seem to be sydney or melbourne second letters is there a particular qty or date range known that was built in Adelaide ?? i am just trying to understand where my car fits in the picture of things i am happy to email pictures and stuff to any of the guru,s who can help me unravel this car the other car i used to have was a sydney car 80837 , the firewall numbers on the adelaide car are a bigger stamping i think and i have noticed that they are different windsceen pillars , which one is series 1 pillar and which one is series 2 pillars the smooth pillar or the pillar with the lip
the car sat in a wrecking yard up north for about 20yrs after being rolled , cheers brett

The 2 x letters are for which Body assembly and Vehicle assembly plant the car went through. You don't normally see anything other than AA, SS, MM and BB on HK Monaros as they are normally assembled at the same location that the body was hard trimmed and painted, although there have been a few Monaros come up with AS suffixes or the like. AS is Elizabeth (Adelaide) body construction, paint and hard trim and Pagewood (Sydney) assembly. Where you normally see it is on Pagewood and Dandenong HK vans (mostly AS or AM) and Mosman Park (Perth) assembled vehicles (msotly AP). This rule has been known to be broken too as early HK utes appear to be Acacia Ridge bodies but have SS chassis numbers, very wierd indeed!
The ridged pillars are early HK coupe bodies only, like June-August only or thereabouts. There is no such thing as series 1 or series 2 HK, it is simply type 1 and type 2 327 engines (US and Canadian spec engines respectively), nothing else changed really at the engine breakpoint. I'm not even sure it happened on the same day at each assembly plant!

hi byron , thanks for that and the email forward , much appreciated , yeah i have read up on most of the hk posts going back a long , seems the more you read the more confused you seem to get as so many opinions vary about so many things , but is all a learning process i guess ,
now that i have finally got the car ( didnt want to post anything till i had it in my hands as such ) i can start doing some research about what when and where i will be documenting the car this weekend with lots of pics , as that is the only way to show original colour and trim combo with the big tags as such once we know a build date and with the firewall number and small tag number , is there any way of knowing what the body number would have been or a range it came from , i am still hoping one day now or years away the original stolen big tag comes up somewhere either for sale or in a post or something so at least if i could know what range to keep an look out for , would be good
someone told me or i read in a post somewhere that the warwick yellow cars had mostly black trim , and parchment trim on a yellow car was reasonably low numbers , this is the sort of info i would like to know just general opinions and advice from the guys on here who clearly have years of dealing with these cars and questions , eg can we tell from the numbers so far what range of engine numbers i should be looking for to put into it and to be period correct
have no intentions of trying to make a numbers matching car as such , but is just nice to know that anything i do to it is period correct compared to what was in it originally , sorry to seem to be pain and dribble on so much but i am excited to finally own a proper 327 car ,
