I have just been cleaning my diff housing out and have found that one end is "scoured" (it runs length wise along the housing for about 20 cm, not around in a circular motion) on the inside - like an axle has broken (??) at some point and this has scoured the inside of the housing. My question is - will this adversely affect the diff in anyway?. It is a 3.08 ratio diff housing and I don't have a spare. I have just had the centre rebuilt and am ready to start reassembling so any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers. |

Get the housing checked by a diff specialist. A common problem is that the ends of the housing are not square & true. It is the usual cause of premature wheel bearing failure.
Most guys who build diff housings for conversions will have a jig for checking it out.
