Hi,
in the middle of buying a L34 and cant see the X casting above the 308 cast on the side of the block, has there been any genuine L34 blocks without the X cast above the 308? and apparently there is another X on the rear of the block above the oil pan flange, where exactly do you find this second X casting,
good advise would be really appricciated

The webbing is different on the back of the block above the main bearing seat. This might be a better indication then trying to find an X. My L34 block didn't have an X on the side and I was told not all of them had it.
The GMH-Torana forum might be more helpful for this type of inquiry.

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.

The X just means a change in the casting of some description so that the casting can be identified at a later date. Mostof those blocks with X's aren't L34, they were F5000 as far as I understand. I think some filtered through into L34. Nest bet is to get all teh car's details and take a hi-res photo of the engine number. There are a number of people here and on other Forums that will suss it for you.

thanks for replies,
I did receive some info from someone who seams to know what he is talking about, the car in question doesn't have anything about it to make me suspicious of her being a genuine L34.

numbers, dates and books all match up and look good, the block doesn't look decked and/or restamped,

it was just the "X" factor that was my concern, I have since been told by reliable source that they didn't all have the X on the side of the block
