problem with a sender i think or maybe wiring, a 1971 hq gts 2 dr,reading from emtpy to full,when i fill up it goes to almost empty and when im about half way through tank it goes to full,any help would be great.cheers thanks.

sounds like a faulty sender if you disconnect the wire at the sender it should read full or empty depending on gauge and if you earth the wire it should read the opposite if that works correctly you will know that it is a faulty sender

About ½ way through the HQ series they reversed the polarity (for want of a better way of putting it) of the fuel gauges. It sounds like you have a later gauge and an early sender or vice versa.
The best way to fix it is to take your gauge and sender t

Dave....good post...an accurate HQ fuel gauge. LOL.
Gee maybe I should go too. Mine stays full for ages the all of a sudden drops to half.

Hi John. maybe I should have said "The rarest fuel gauge in the world"...even my VY SS Ute's gauge reads full for about 60 k's and reads ½ when I only have about a third of a tank left...
